Pancake ice forming
On one shift during refuelling it became so cold that pancake ice started forming on the lee side of the Amderma. Pancake ice is when the surface of the ocean starts to freeze up and the ice moves around with the movement of the sea and bashes into other pieces which make the edges thicker and gives the impressions of little pancakes all over the sea. Very cool to think this all formed within about 4 hours - guess that goes to show what is going to happen as the sea ice forms coming into winter!
