Teddies day out
Ted and Kevin recently had a big day out. Armed with a brand new teddy sized ice axe fabricated by their good mate Nick, Ted got dressed up for the great outdoors and went exploring. who said there were no bears in Antarctica?
Relaxation
I really managed to embrace the whole relaxation theme on our weekend at Wilkes. The beauty of Wilkes hut is that there is a fire and it gets nice and warm - warm enough for shorts and t-shirt which makes for a very nice change in this land of ice!
Beautiful winter sunsets
The thing that makes winters so worthwhile is the sunsets and sunrises. The sun sits so low to the horizon that they seem to last forever. This is the thing i have most loved and been so suprised by. It never fails to impress. I could stare at them all day, but it does get cold!
Another trip to Wilkes
In the first weekend of July 5 of us headed over to Wilkes. This time the trip was in the Limousine of Antarctic travel - the Nodwell, or as it is more affectionately known, Noddy! The problem with Wilkes, and the reason it was abandoned all those years ago is that it gets covered in snow. That meant it took a great deal of effort and shovelling to get in the door to even begin our weekend away. Luckily it was nice and warm and calm. of course i did help, i'm just not in any photos cos i was taking them, but would i lie to you all??? hehe..
Kevin's big night out
Train driver Kevin got to escape the confines of the redshed, and he thought it was better than going to Luna Park when he was able to ride down from the top floor in the forklift man cage all by hiimself. Myself, i was more than a little concerned for his welfare, but was able to rest easy when he made it all the way to the bottom unscathed!
Wacky Car racers
Well, with midwinter done and dusted - recovery's made, it was time to get back into making our own entertainment of a Friday night. Our Building services supervisor (a chippy) came up with an idea to give everyone a lucky dip pillow slip that contained timber, axles, and wheels to make a racing car. The races were to be held on the new mezzanine floor of the greenstore - kind of like a grand opening! It was so much fun. As soon as i took my timber out of the bag i knew mine had to be in the shape of a train. In the first race i had Kevin the stunt driving teddy at the wheel, but in the subsequent heats i decided that i must shed the weight if I was to be in with a real chance. At the end of the day, mine was third fastest in the final! So much fun, and it yet again makes me realise how much fun you can have just with a little bit of imagination.
midwinter gifts
some of the people here are just so talented. Here is the finished products of all our gifts... Amazing, and they are such great keepsakes for everyone to have forever.
Me and my gift
I was super excited when i got my present to find it was a picture frame made by our doc, Clive out of wind scoured timber. It is just so beautiful, i am so thankful for this gift! What a way to remember this event forever.
