The down side of so much snow

This is what myself and Allen, the other electrician face after every blizzard. The silver box you see covered in snow is an explosion relief vent that has been installed in the High voltage ring main buildings to allow for our fire suppression system working. The fire suppression system called Pyrogen is a gas cannister that fires when there is a fire and starves the fire of oxygen. When it activates it causes a pressure build up that requires a ventilation system or otherwise damage would be caused like doors getting broken or roofs being blown off - not very handy in Antarctica. So anyhow, we have to ensure that these vents remain clear and operational. Trouble is, after every blizzard, this is what we find. So probably at least once a week, we have the not so fun task of digging the building out just like you see in these photo's. Sometimes the snow build up is not as bad as this - it all depends on which way the wind is blowing during the blizzard. Ah, the fun and games!
